The monthly co-PI meeting was held on November 23, 2019. Each co-principal investigator gave reports on their current research progress, including building up epidemic transmission models, text mining, doing semantic analysis of epidemic news, and developing data visualization algorithms. The team also drew up annual research directions and expected results for each sub-project, which included an online global-scale platform for visualizing real-time epidemic dynamics, disease transmission and human mobility algorithms, and a comprehensive database of infectious diseases and disease-related data such as human transport, social media, environmental parameters and risk factors. In the meanwhile, our principal investigator, Dr. Wen, was also scheduling a consultative meeting with Southeast Asia scholars from University of Philippines Manila, Mahidol University and University of Indonesia, who specialize in public health, biostatistics and epidemiology of infectious diseases. The project team expected the meeting would be a starting point for future international collaborations with these Southeast Asia researchers on issues of disease transmission and modeling.
